An exhibition is to go on display at the Lawson Memorial Hospital this week to celebrate the 70th birthday of NHS Scotland.
Photographs and stories, highlighting former members of staff, visits from the royal family and famous patients such as John Lennon will take pride of place in the new Munro Seminar Room at the Golspie hospital between 2pm and 4pm on Thursday July 5.
Lorraine Coe, NHS Highland’s Sutherland district manager, said: “Seventy years of the NHS is a very special occasion, so we want to celebrate this at the Lawson Memorial Hospital and at hospitals and care homes across Sutherland.
“At the hospital, we will be acknowledging some of the significant milestones and also saying ‘thank you’ to the fabulous Health and Social Care teams that have worked in and from the hospital and across Sutherland over the years.
“The dedication, commitment and care shown by everyone has been and continues to be extraordinary and very much appreciated.
“In planning this event, we are very grateful to Jean Sim for sharing some of her fabulous memories of the Lawson Memorial Hospital during the course of the last 70 years and are delighted that she will be joining us at the hospital as we celebrate this 70th birthday.
“If there are any other past members of staff who wish to attend and share their stories with us, we would be very pleased to see you.”
The hospital was at the centre of worldwide media attention in 1969 for treating Mr Lennon at the height of his Beatles fame.
