The scene of yesterday morning's accident involving an ambulance and a tradesmans van on the single track road between Munlochy and Rhives on the Black Isle.

An ambulance responding to a call was involved in a road traffic collision yesterday near to Munlochy on the Black Isle.

The incident comes just a day after a police car on a blue-light run was involved in a collision on the A9 at Alness.

A white Peugeot van and the ambulance were involved in the collision on Rhives Road shortly after 9.35am

Police, fire and ambulance crews all attended and the van driver was cut from the van and taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness with what are understood to be non life-threatening injuries.

A fire spokesman said: “We received a call at 9.36am today to reports of a road traffic collision on Rhives Road near to Munlochy. Three appliances, all from Inverness, were sent to the scene and arrived at 9.42am.

“Hydraulic cutting equipment was used at the scene.”

The two crew on board the ambulance were uninjured.

An ambulance spokesman said: “Responding to a call out, an ambulance was involved in a collision with another vehicle at Munlochy at the Black Isle.

“There were no injuries to the ambulance crew and the driver of the other vehicle was transported to Raigmore Hospital by road.

“A separate emergency crew had at that point already arrived on scene in Munlochy and we ensured the call was adequately resourced.”

The incident comes just a day after a police car on a blue right run was involved in a collision near to Alness on the A9.

A black Mazda was also involved in the collision which occurred around 3pm on Monday afternoon. Three people were injured in the incident with a man and a woman in their 50s freed from the Mazda and taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. Their injuries are described as serious but are not thought to be life-threatening.

A full road closure took place for several hours as a collision investigation took place to establish the circumstances that led to the incident.

The male police officer, who was the sole occupant of the police vehicle, was taken to Raigmore Hospital and has since been released.

Road Policing Inspector David Hynd said: “We are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this incident or seen either vehicle prior to the collision to contact us.

“Both vehicles were travelling southbound and we would ask that any motorists who were in the area who may have dash-cam footage get in touch with us.

“The A9 was closed between Invergordon and Kildary to allow for enquiries to take place. It is in the process of reopening and we are grateful to members of the public for their patience while this is carried out.”
