Police are eager to speak to two motorists who are believed to have been travelling on the A9 near Delny on Monday, just moments after a two vehicle crash involving a marked police car occurred.
The two-vehicle smash involving a black Mazda 3 and a marked police vehicle on the A9 Thurso to Inverness road, north of Delny, at around 3pm, leaving three people injured.
The patrol vehicle, which had just the driver inside, was understood to have been on the way to an incident in Alness, Ross-shire, with the blue lights flashing when the collision happened.
Two people from the other car, and the police officer, were all left trapped in their vehicles. They were taken to hospital and the oficer was later discharged.
The condition of the other two is not known but their injuries were not life-threatening.
The road remained closed for several hours.
As an investigations continue to try and piece together the movements that led to the crash, officers are appealing to speak to a motorcyclist who is believed to have negotiated through the collision site shortly after it occurred, as well as the driver of a silver 4×4 vehicle – possibly a Landrover Discovery – that was travelling south at the same time.
Road policing sergeant Ewan Calder said: “We are particularly keen to speak to these two motorists who may have information that could assist with our enquiries and who may be key witnesses to the collision.
“I am grateful to those who have spoken to us so far and would urge anyone who hasn’t spoken to police to come forward.”
