Highland cadet honoured for piping and drumming

A piper from the Highlands has been given national recognition for his dedication to Army Cadet Force piping and drumming, during a ceremony held in London.

Cadet Corporal Alan Hasson, age 16, from 1st Battalion The Highlanders’ Pipes and Drums Detachment in Culloden, was awarded the BAE Systems Recognising Excellence Award.

He was presented with his prize on Saturday evening at the annual Army Cadet Force Association Dinner, held in the De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in Covent Garden, London

Cadet Corporal Hasson has been an active piper within the battalion’s since he joined in 2014. Throughout his time he has played at almost every engagement that the band has been involved in, from the Highland Military Tattoo to Armed Forces Day.

He is also an active member of the Army Cadet Force Pipes and Drums, where he has performed at Edinburgh Castle, the Rorkes Drift Concert in Wales and even the Horseguards Parade in London. Within the detachment Alan is also one of the Detachment’s cadet instructors, passing onto the junior cadets of the detachment his
