Ross County Football Club midfielder Don Cowie nominates his father for this years campaign.

Ross county midfielder Don Cowie is joining dozens of people in supporting sick children across the Highlands by signing up for this year’s Beard for Bairns campaign.

The annual initiative, run by children’s charity the Archie Foundation, aims to rally individuals from across the north and encourage them to ditch their razors for an entire month in a bid to grow or style their beards.

From Christmas day through to Burns night on January 25, participants can choose from nine different styles of beard including the captain, metal head and a classic beard.

Christina Brockman-More, ARCHIE Regional Fundraising Manager said: “Beards for Bairns raises a significant amount every year and all the money raised in the Highlands goes to support local sick children in the Highlands. We hope as many individuals and teams will sign up and help us raise as much as we can for children at the Unit.”

Women in the north are also being encouraged by the charity to take part – with the option of choosing to grow the classic chin hugger or the outlandish ‘Iron Man’ or a goatee.

In a bid to encourage further participation, highland residents are being asked to nominate those closest to them – whether it be your husband, partner, brother, dad, uncle, cousin or even your best friend – to take part in the annual challenge.

Among the dozens of individuals already signed up for the challenge, Ross County midfielder Don Cowie has nominated his father to take part.

More than £1,100 has already been raised by 68 heroes online in support of the campaign.

All proceeds raised from the campaign will be donated to the Highland Children’s Unit at Raigmore Hospital to help provide care to sick children admitted to the ward.
