Mountain rescue teams battled “appalling” conditions to find an injured climber in the Cairngoirms yesterday.
Braemar, Aberdeen, Glenmore Lodge and Cairngorm mountain rescue teams were all dispatched at around 3.30pm to reports of an injured climber of the Cairngorm Plateau, near Ben Macdui, the highest mountain in the Cairngorms National Park and the second highest in the UK.
The Rescue Aircraft 199 helicopter was also involved in the search.
Hillwalker missing in “appalling” weather is found but their condition remains unknown
The teams overcame poor visibility and strong blasts of wind to locate the hillwalker, and advised that removing the casualty from the mountain would be a trickier task than usual due to the adverse weather. The condition of the rescued person is not known.
Meanwhile, a pair of exhausted hillwalkers were airlifted from a mountain in Lochaber on Saturday night, while a further two men in the same party, were walked to safety.
The alarm was raised when two walkers from a party of four, who were exhausted after a protracted 1,968-ft climb to the summit of Tower Ridge, near Ben Nevis, needed help to get down the hillside at 9pm.
Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team (LMRT) said: “There was a relatively straightforward call out on the Ben after a party got their money’s worth out of Tower Ridge, not summiting till 9pm, then succumbing to exhaustion and cold.

“After requesting some assistance, and with the forecast looking to get nasty overnight, time was definitely of the essence.
“We had help from Coastguard Rescue Helicopter R951, who managed to lift two casualties off from high up on the mountain in between squally showers.
“The other two were met by LMRT members and walked off the hill.”
