Preparations for this year’s Run the Runway event, in aid of Maggie’s Highland, are in full swing.
The unusual charity event allows fundraisers access to the airfield at Inverness Airport as soon as the clock strikes midnight, where they have the option to run, jog or walk 5km on the illuminated runway.
Andrew Benjamin, fundraising manager at Maggie’s Highland, said: “Since we started in 2017, the event has just got bigger and bigger, and better and better.
“Building on success is hard but this event gets stronger each year and the enjoyment people get from this event is great.
“In year one, we raised £29,000 and in year two £46,000, so we are aiming to get over that £50,000 mark to raise funds that are vital to help Maggie’s offer practical social support to those living with cancer, as well as their friends and families.
“This year’s event is one we are promising to make even better. We have a few surprises lined up on the entertainment side as we plan to have more things going on during the evening.

“Seeing 200 people out running the runway – there is no better feeling.
“I am delighted to announce that easyJet has committed to donating a top prize for the highest fundraiser, consisting of return flights to and from London, and onwards to any destination on the easyJet network.”
The event is being limited to 200 runners again this year, with interested parties encouraged to sign up as early to avoid disappointment.
Dan Mason, airfield operations manager at Inverness Airport, reiterated their support to the event, saying: “The Run the Runway event is something we are just delighted to support.
“Last year was just phenomenal in terms of the funds raised, the atmosphere and the pleasure that everyone got out of the event.
“It is always a good night and the uniqueness of the event – to be out there running in the middle of the night on the airfield with the lights on – we just love doing it every year and it is an absolute pleasure to work with Maggie’s Highland.”
Ali Gayward, easyJet’s UK country manager, said: “We’re so happy to offer our help to this amazing cause once again, and would like to wish all the runners the best of luck to all those taking part.”
Anyone keen to take part can sign up through the Eventbrite website. Registration is priced at £15 for adults and £10 for under 16s, with the requirement that a minimum of £115 must be raised by entrants.
