A lone sailor was rescued after issuing a Mayday off the holy island of Iona in a half-hour period which saw three lifeboats launched to separate west coast incidents.

Tobermory Lifeboat was first sent to the small dinghy south of the tiny isle.

The vessel with one person on board was experiencing some engine trouble. The lifeboat provided a tow for the vessel and brought them to shore at Fidden. Ross of Mull Coastguard Rescue Team were also sent to assist the person onshore.

The coastguard also received a request for assistance over a woman who had injured her ankle on Davaar Island at the mouth of Campbeltown Loch around 12.25pm.

Campbeltown inshore lifeboat, Campbeltown CRT were sent to the team to assist. The woman was transferred by lifeboat and back to the RNLI station, where they were met by the Scottish Ambulance Service.

A small dinghy with four people on board also hit problems off a remote peninsula.

Mallaig Lifeboat was launched after the quartet struggled with the tide near Knoydart.

Coastguards received the call from a member of the public at around 12.20pm.

But the people got to the shore on their own and were reported to be safe and well with no assistance needed from the lifeboat.
