Drew Hendry: It is my privilege and honour to be the MP for the people of Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey

A Highland MP has thanked local constituents for their support after being re-elected to serve Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey for a third term.

Scottish National Party candidate Drew Hendry was declared the winner at Inverness Sports Centre after securing a clear majority of more than 10,000 votes.

Following an arduous seven hour wait, he stormed to victory securing 26, 247 votes, a stark increase of 5,205 votes.

His victory marks his third term, having previously won the public’s support in the 2015 and 2017.

Taking to social media just a short while after his victory lap, Mr Hendry wrote: “Thank you to everyone who voted to re-elect me for a third time. It is my privilege and honour to be the MP for the people of Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey.”

Conservative candidate Dr Fiona Fawcett came in second after achieving 15,807 votes.

Speaking to the Press and Journal she said she was “absolutely over the moon” to have gained so much support.

She said: “I am so pleased as I wanted something around 16,000 votes. It was a real fight against worthy opponents and to have pulled 15,800, I cannot tell you how happy I am.  I never thought I would manage that and I am thrilled.”
