Two people have been taken to hospital following a crash on the A9.

Police, fire and ambulance crews were called to the scene at Carrbridge at 2.20pm.

A section of the road was closed and diversions put in place while officers carried out inquiries to establish the full circumstances.

The two-vehicle collision involved a red Nissan Qashqai travelling southbound and a grey Citroen C4 travelling northbound.

A fire service spokeswoman said a call was received at 2.24pm with two crews from Grantown attending.

She said: “Our crews are currently making the scene safe.

“Cutting equipment has been in use.”

Police said a 69-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man have been taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness. They are both described as being in a “serious but stable condition”.

Road Policing Inspector Alistair Mackay said: “Inquiries are at an early stage and it’s important we establish exactly what happened here. I am appealing to any witnesses who may have seen the accident or were driving shortly before it to come forward as soon as possible. I would also ask anyone with dash-cam footage that could assist our investigation to get in touch.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 101.

A 19-mile diversion route has been put in place by diverting onto the A95 Aviemore to Grantown road to Dulnain Bridge, before following the A938 from Dulnain Bridge to Carrbridge and rejoining the A9.
