New agreement between community and Royal Dornoch will provide locals with more benefits

Golf in Scotland will be looking to bounce back.
Golf in Scotland will be looking to bounce back.

Members of Dornoch Community Council has been given £10,000 for local projects.

The Royal Dornoch Golf Club has awarded the funding, meaning they have donated £50,000 in recent years.

And following extensive negotiations, Dornoch Community Council has announced it is close to agreeing the final details for a renewed lease for land used by the golf club.

The current agreement dates back to the 1970s when a deal was struck which resulted in Royal Dornoch Golf Club paying just £150 per year for the common good lease.

The newly agreed rate now means an annual £25,000 fee will be paid to the Dornoch Common Good Fund for the next 99 years, with a further minimum payment of £25,000 also to be made annually from funds generated through players paying to play on the championship course.

The new arrangement will monitor both sums to ensure they reflect inflation over the course of the agreed 99-year period.

The community council said it has been working “diligently” to improve and strengthen the partnership between the two organisations for the benefit of locals.

The group added: “We look forward to working with Royal Dornoch Golf Club, Highland Council and the local community to reach a final agreement in the coming weeks.”
