Charleston Academy in Inverness will be partially closed from tomorrow due to “staff self-isolating”.

The secondary school will be closed to S1-S3 pupils.

Nicky Grant, interim head of education said: “Parents and carers should observe the council’s school closures website at www.highland.gov.uk/schoolclosures from 7am each morning to determine if their school is closed.

“We apologise that the information in a letter issued by Charleston Academy is incorrect and did not follow guidance issued to all head teachers.

“The council and all Highland schools are following national guidance.”

A number of other schools in the region have also been closed today, believed to be due to staff self-isolating.

The schools closed are:

  • Bualnaluib Primary:  Partially closed – closed in the afternoon (unforeseen circumstances)
  • Bualnaluib Primary Nursery:  Partially closed – closed in the afternoon (unforeseen circumstances)
  • Carbost Primary Nursery:  Closed (unforeseen circumstances)
  • Marybank Primary:  Closed (unforeseen circumstances)
  • Marybank Primary Nursery:  Closed (unforeseen circumstances)
  • Smithton Primary:  Closed (unforeseen circumstances)
  • Strathdearn Primary Nursery:  Partially closed – nursery closed (unforeseen circumstances)

Craighill Primary and Knockbreck Primary in Tain were closed on Monday as a precaution after a pupil and a member of staff took ill.

A statement from Highland Council said there was not yet evidence it is related to coronavirus, but that the measure was being taken as a precaution.
