An 87-year-old man remains in hospital after sustaining serious injuries in a two-vehicle crash in Invergordon.

The collision occurred on Saltburn Road on Wednesday, shortly after 4pm.

A white Peugeot 2008 was travelling west towards Invergordon town centre when it collided with a grey Volkswagen Golf travelling in the opposite direction.

The pensioner was rushed to Raigmore Hospital with serious injuries alongside a 26-year-old woman.

The woman was later released following treatment.

Police, firefighters and paramedics attended the scene after the alarm was raised.

Two fire appliances from Invergordon joined a crew from Dingwall following reports of the multi-vehicle crash.

Upon arrival, the crews made the scene safe before returning to base around 5pm.

The road was closed between 9pm and midnight as police undertook an accident investigation.

Officers are now appealing for witnesses to come forward and aid their investigations by establishing the events leading up to the crash.

Sergeant Alasdair Mackay, of the road policing unit based at Dingwall, said: “We are appealing to anyone who may have seen either vehicle in the Invergordon area shortly before the collision to get in touch.

“We are also appealing for anyone who may have been in the area at the time and who has dashcam footage or any other information that may assist to get in touch.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101.
