The centre of Fort William is blooming in time for a return of the tourist season after a last minute blossoming of support.

Volunteers on the Town Team Committee struggled to find suppliers this year for the popular hanging baskets and other flower displays.

They had feared there was little hope of achieving any of their annual projects.

But with the help of Jamie Hail Lawn and Landscapes, which manages the watering of the displays, the team was able to source 40 hanging baskets and 100 Begonias from Dunfermline firm Growforth to place in the High Street and Parade.

Committee secretary Karen Dean said: “With 2020 being such a strange year for everyone, and lockdown preventing us from accomplishing most of these tasks, we felt it was only right for us to do what we could to offer something back to the community who support us each year.

“We were getting a little disheartened that we could not guarantee to source anything, but then it just all came together.”

She said the team had intended to donate the flowers this year, but some businesses have continued to sponsor displays while others are paid for by families in memory of relatives.
