A popular Highland adventure park has been forced to close just one week after bosses were told it could remain open.

Management at Landmark Forrest Adventure Park in Carrbridge said it was a “huge disappointment” to announce the park’s closure for the next two days while they deal with the issue.

The destination was given clearance to continue operating on Tuesday of last week but staff were today told by the Highland Council that they need to shut down some of the rides.

This comes after the Scottish Government decision to close all fairground rides in the country.

The team said the measure was particularly disappointing as they have been open since July 15 and following strict Covid-19 safety measures.

A well-known Aberdeen visitor attraction was also forced to close due to Scottish Government guidelines.

The decision to keep Codona’s shut sparked anger and fears over potential job loses.

Two rides, the Wild Water Coaster and the Rollercoaster at Landmark, will be closed but this leaves Landmark with a reduced capacity as the rides have a “large ability to process visitors”.

Management has now taken the decision to close for the next two days so they can work on new visitor management strategies and avoid overcrowding.

A statement from the park said: “It is with huge disappointment that due to the Scottish Government’s interpretation of funfairs and fairgrounds in their Covid-19 legislation we have to announce the closure, for the time being, of the Water Coaster and the Rollercoaster at Landmark.

“This is despite us being given clearance to operate only last Tuesday. We received official notice of this closure from Highland Council, who were responding to a Scottish Government Statement released on the 31st of July.

“The closure notification was formally communicated to us this afternoon. We have had no other official advance notice.

“This is particularly disappointing given the fact we have been operating under strict Covid-19 safety measures for these attractions since July 15th.

“We are hugely grateful to our staff who worked above and beyond on preparing all of the Covid-19 mitigation we had in place on these attractions.

“We sincerely believe that we have managed the risk to acceptable levels of safety for staff and visitors.”
