Vulnerable families in Sutherland are being supported with baby and toddler essentials thanks to a collaboration between Sutherland Community Partnership (SCP) and an Aberdeen charity.
AberNeccessities is one of only three charities selected recently by the Duchess of Cambridge to join her ‘baby bank’ initiative which brings 19 British brands and retailers together to donate goods to more than 40 baby banks across the UK.
It provides disadvantaged families with the essential and basic necessities, from maternity bundles for mother and baby to nappies, formula milk, clothing, toys and equipment for children aged 0-18.
SCP, led by Police Scotland’s community partnership officer Dominic Corcoran, worked closely with the Westminister Foundation to identify that along with the need for help with food and fuel, some Sutherland families are struggling to purchase essential items for their babies and toddlers.
Mr Corcoran said: “Many families who require additional support have found it particularly tough during the pandemic.
“These families can now take some peace of mind that further help is available.”
The Westminster Foundation awarded them a grant of £4,000 via AberNeccessities.
AberNecessities founder Danielle Flecher-Horn said: “The amazing efforts from Sutherland Community Partnership raised £4,000, enabling us to provide packages of nappies, formula and toiletries to help 80 vulnerable families in need.
“In what is an extremely challenging time for us all, funding such as this is truly invaluable to children living without the basic essentials and we are thrilled to have been able to help families in Sutherland.”
