Petrolhead presenters Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May were spotted in the Highlands yesterday as filming for the Grand Tour gets underway.

The iconic television trio rolled about the Highlands in the driving seat of a Buick, a Lincoln and a Cadillac.

They were also spotted with their own caravans and reportedly with a Covid-19 testing centre van also in tow.

It is understood the upcoming Amazon Prime series follows them driving from Edinburgh to the Hebrides.

Some car fanatics were able to snap up the presenters on their journey that included a pitstop at the Torridon Hotel in Wester Ross.

A video shows the cars circling the entrance before parking up at the front of the Highland hotel.

Clare Mccusker, who works at Mains House retirement home in Newtonmore, was fortunate to chat with the celebrities before getting a photograph with Mr May.

She said: “I bumped into them twice –  the second time outside my work, so managed some photos and a chat with both Jeremy Clarkson and James May.

“Jeremy and James spoke about the changes to the filming due to Covid-19 and how things are taking a lot longer.

“Richard Hammond was unfortunately on the back of a break down vehicle and was not around to talk.”

The trio also tackled the notorious Bealach na Bà through the Applecross peninsula. Ian Read posted a video of the crew taking off from one of the many stop off points on the journey.

The Grand Tour made their last visit to the Highlands in 2018 with filming taking place in Inverness.

About 100 tourists, locals and court workers mustered as they pulled up next to the Flora MacDonald statue at Inverness Castle in a Fiat X1/9, a Lancia Gamma and an Alfa Romeo GTV6.
