Pop superstar Sam Smith shocked guests and management at a remote Highland inn when they booked a night’s stay using a different name.

The Stay With Me and Money On My Mind singer arrived at the Aultguish Inn near Garve on Friday evening – much to the surprise of staff.

The 29-year-old is believed to be visiting the North Coast 500 (NC500) with friends.

“It was a surprise because they had not booked in their own name – a friend had made the reservation,” said manager Anca Floria.

“I did not know who they were and we just chatted about the normal things. But my friend then recognised them.

“They were a very nice person. They stayed the night and had dinner and breakfast. They are just visiting around.”

Not Smith’s first visit to Scotland

Smith also visited Scotland two years ago and then spoke of that life changing trip.

They enjoyed a long stay in the Highlands and Islands  – even visiting the UK’s remotest island, 112 miles out into the Atlantic from the mainland.

They also went to the Isle of Harris visiting the stunning Luskentyre Beach – often named by tourist guides as among the best in the world.

Their trip then included the isle of Benbecula and Applecross in Wester Ross.

Writing on Instagram at the time, Smith said: “This holiday has truly been food for the soul in every way. Feel so happy and rejuvenated. I love you Scotland x.”

The star arrived on the archipelago’s main island of Hirta, 41 miles west of the main Outer Hebrides on Tuesday.

The Grammy-winning artist also climbed their first Munro, describing it as “such a beautiful, fulfilling and exhausting experience”.

This time they have kept their Highland visit off social media.

Smith is known to use the they/them pronouns.

They have sold over 30 million albums worldwide. Their achievements include four Grammy Awards, three Brit Awards, three Billboard Music Awards, and an American Music Award, as well as a Golden Globe and an Academy Award.
