The National Federation of Fish Friers has revoked the membership of a Highland fish and chip shop that celebrated the death of the Queen by spraying champagne.
Hours after the death of Her Majesty, Jaki’s Fish and Chip Shop posted a Facebook video with a staff member holding up a chalkboard that read “Lizard Liz Dead and London Bridge has fallen.”
The person then clumsily tried to refilm the event before spraying champagne over herself. She was filmed by another person. The video was then uploaded to Facebook.
The chip shop was forced to close on Thursday evening after it was surrounded by a crowd of angry local residents.
On Friday morning mess that appeared to be from eggs thrown at the shop window was still visible.
Tributes for The Queen have poured in from across the world. The behaviour of the chip shop was roundly condemned on social media.
‘We want you to leave’
One person, Ali Wilkerson, posted: “I hope you’re out of business and run out of the Muir in the month. Highlanders, by which I mean proper true Highlanders, not just by birth, but the people who chose to live here are decent gentle folk, respectful of others.
“You do not belong to us, we want you to leave.”
It is then reported that people drove to the chip shop pelting it with eggs.

Police confirmed they were called to the shop at around 8.30pm as large crowds gathered in the area.
A police spokesman said: “Shortly after 8.30pm on Thursday September 8 officers attended at a business in the Seaforth Road area of Muir of Ord following a report of a large crowd gathered in the area.
“Officers remained at the scene to ensure the safety of all present and the group subsequently dispersed peacefully. No further police action has been required.”
Videos have emerged online of Ms Pickett driving away being booed by a large crowd. Footage shows at least three police vehicles attended the incident.
In spite of Ms Pickett appearing to drink champagne only hours before driving away – police said the incident was closed as there was no suggestion that a crime was committed.
A statement from the National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF) condemned the posts as “extremely bad taste”.
A social media post added: “We have discussed this as a board and have taken the decision to revoke the membership of this business owner and we will be writing to them and asking them to remove all association of the NFFF from her business, social media and websites.”
