A van driver was airlifted to hospital after a head-on collision on a Highland road.

The A95 Grantown to Aberlour road was closed for around four hours yesterday afternoon following the accident near Advie Mains Farm between Advie and Tormore.

A Ford Focus and a Ford Transit Connect van collided around 12.30pm, with the van driver cut free from his vehicle by firefighters.

Most of the front section of the van was cut away with part of its roof also removed in order to reach him.

The driver was then transferred by air ambulance to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness but it is not thought that he suffered serious injuries.

A police spokesman said: “I can confirm that there was a two vehicle collision on the A95 and that a casualty has been airlifted to Raigmore Hospital.

“Fortunately there is not believed to be any serious injuries at this time.”

The driver of the Ford Focus was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

The car suffered damage to its front and back end and extensive debris was left lying on the road.

Traffic queued in both directions while the crash aftermath was cleared by trunk road operators Bear Scotland and both vehicles were recovered later in the afternoon.

The accident happened in a dip on a straight section of the busy road which links Badenoch and Strathspey with Moray and Aberdeenshire.

Three fire crews were dispatched to the scene to help with the rescue.

A fire and rescue spokeswoman said: “Two appliances from Grantown and one from Rothes were involved.

“Firefighters used cutting equipment to help extricate a casualty from one of the vehicles before being stood down.”
