‘Mull! Skye! St Kilda! Lunga! Oh my!’
He was joined by friend and frequent collaborator Grant Shaffer (@granteepants).
“Mull! Skye! St Kilda! Lunga! Oh my!” Mr Cumming wrote on Instagram, listing each stop on their island voyage.
He also shared a carousel of photographs capturing rugged coastlines, emerald slopes and a surprising encounter with a namesake.
“Pic seven is with fellow passenger, also named Alan Cumming!!!!” he said, sharing an image of the two Alans smiling aboard the ship.
The unexpected meeting quickly captured the imagination of fans, with many commenting on the uncanny coincidence.
Cumming’s Hebrides return with the two Alans
The cruise offered a luxury yet intimate experience exploring some of the country’s most breathtaking and isolated locations.
And the company, known for its small-vessel tours and high standards of hospitality, clearly left an impression on the actor.
“Thanks to everyone on @hebrideanislandcruises for looking after us so well,” Mr Cumming wrote in his caption.
The trip took in the Isle of Mull, famed for its colourful harbour village of Tobermory and abundant wildlife and the Isle of Skye, with its dramatic rock formations and fairy glens.
It also visited St Kilda, a UNESCO World Heritage Site recognised for its remote beauty and huge seabird colonies.

Lunga, part of the Treshnish Isles, is particularly popular with puffin-spotters, and appears to have been a favourite for Cumming too.
The actor’s photos showed both sweeping views and candid moments of island life – from puffins nesting on cliffs to sun-dappled decks and windswept selfies.
A proud Scot and longtime advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and the arts, Mr Cumming often returns to his homeland for both work and leisure.

It is set at Ardross Castle in the Highlands.
The series, now a global success, features the actor as host in full gothic regalia, drawing new international attention to Scotland’s landscapes and stately homes.
Fans and followers responded enthusiastically to his latest posts.
They praised the natural beauty of the Hebrides and thanking the actor for spotlighting Scotland’s west coast.
