Carrbridge residents have been urged to keep their windows and doors closed as firefighter remain on the scene of a wildfire.
Crews were called to a fire in the open near the Highland village shortly at around 11.20am on Saturday.
One appliance was dispatched to the scene following calls from concerned residents.
It was confirmed later that night that six appliances and more than 30 firefighters were sent to deal with the fire in the Lochindorb area, 11 miles north of Carrbridge.
Firefighters worked through the night to contain the blaze, which took hold near the B9007 road between Duthil and Ferness, at around 5.50pm.
Nearby, firefighters are also battling a blaze on the A939 on the Dava Moors.
Appliances remain at the scene as of 8pm on Monday evening.
Fire crews battle strong winds to contain wildfire
Strong winds have been hampering efforts to contain the blaze, with large plumes of smoke drifting towards populated areas.
Residents are being advised to keep their doors and windows closed in areas of poor visibility.
The snowgates at Carrbridge were also closed.
A fire spokesperson said: “We are aware of a fire in the open affecting an area of land near Carrbridge, Highland, after the alarm was raised on Saturday, 28 June.
“More than 30 firefighters and a number of specialist resources are working to extinguish the fire.
“As a precaution, the public is asked to avoid the area, and if you live nearby, you are advised to close windows and doors due to the smoke in the vicinity.”
Firefighters battling fires across Scotland’s north
It comes as crews have been deployed across Scotland’s north.
Fires were been reported in Grantown and Dallas, Moray.
Area Commander Michael Humphreys has urged those in the affected areas to keep windows and doors closed.
He said: “We are currently in attendance at a number of wildfires across a wide ranging area, from Carrbridge in Highland to Dallas in Forres.
“Due to strong winds, a significant plume of smoke is spreading into nearby residential areas. If you can see the smoke, please make sure your windows and doors are closed.
“I would ask that the public be mindful of the real risk of wildfire, and don’t light fires, stoves or BBQs.
“Leaving litter behind, or dropping cigarettes hugely increases the risk of wildfires.
“I would like to thank all of our firefighters who have attended incidents throughout the area across the weekend and into today.”
