The “increasingly desperate” family of a hillwalker missing in Glencoe for more than 10 days has issued a fresh appeal for information.

Robin Garton was last seen on the morning of Friday, September 25 setting off for a walk in the Glencoe area.

A major search operation has been underway since but so far no sign has been found of the 69-year-old, who is from Devizes in Wiltshire.

His family last night issued a new appeal, urging anyone who thinks they might have seen Mr Garton to get in touch with police.

“In a statement they said: “We are extremely grateful to members of the emergency services and search and rescue personnel who have been helping in the search for Robin.

“We are increasingly desperate to find him. Somebody will have seen have seen him on the morning of September 25 and we would appeal to anyone in the area that day to rack their brains.

“Alternatively, do you know of others that were walking that day who might have seen him? ”

“We’d like to appeal to anyone who saw Robin or may have spoken to him to please get in touch with the police on 101.

“Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, may assist in bringing Robin home to his wife and children.”

Mr Garton was last seen checking out of the Kings House Hotel in Glencoe at around 8am.

His black Volkswagen Passat estate was found a few miles further north at Achnambeithach, near the A82 Fort William to Glasgow road.

Searches in recent days, involving mountain rescue and dog teams, have focused on the Aonach Eagach ridge and the “Three Sisters” area of Bidean nam Bian.

Teams have also searched the wider Glencoe area.

South Highland area commander Brian Mackay thanked the rescue teams who have taken part in the search.

He added: “Searches continue in the area where Mr Garton’s car was found in addition to wider routes he may have taken.

“We would appeal to anyone who has been walking in the Glencoe area recently and may seen someone matching Mr Garton’s description to make contact urgently on 101?

Mr Garton is described as 6ft 2in and of slim to medium build with fair hair which is slightly balding.

He occasionally wears glasses but it is not known what he was wearing when he set out last week.
