Police yesterday found a body in the area of Wester Ross where they have been searching for missing pensioner Roger Fletcher.

The 77-year-old has not been seen since he set off for a walk near Dornie almost six weeks ago.

A police spokeswoman yesterday said: “Police can confirm that a man’s body has been found at Camas-luinie, near Dornie, Lochalsh, this afternoon.

“The family of Roger Fletcher, who has been missing in the area since June 5, has been informed.

“Formal identification will now take place and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”

She added that the body had been discovered by a police dog unit.

Mr Fletcher, of Dundee, was last seen when he set out from a holiday home in Bundalloch, near Dornie, at around 8.30am on Sunday June 5.

The alarm was raised when he failed to return at the appointed time.

Extensive searches were carried out, involving police officers, police and SARDA dogs, Kintail and RAF Mountain Rescue Teams and lifeboat and Coastguard personnel.

These covered the Dornie, Bundalloch and Glenshiel areas and around the A87 Invergarry to Kyle road in the Cluanie direction.

Police also launched a poster campaign in the area.

The posters, bearing a photo of Mr Fletcher and his description, were put up around Dornie, Kyle and Glenshiel in the hope they would jog someone’s memory.

The campaign brought a good response from the public and a number of sightings of white-haired, older men matching Mr Fletcher’s description were reported.

These were checked out by police, but none turned out to be the missing pensioner.

Meanwhile, three walkers – Goffredo Bondanelli, 56, Eric Cyl, 62, and Tom Brown, 65 – are still missing in the Lochaber area.

Mr Bondanelli, who is a German national, was last seen in Fort William on Tuesday, May 3, boarding a train to Lochailort, before undertaking a 21-mile walk between Lochailort and Glenfinnan, with plans to return to Glenfinnan on Sunday May 8.

Mr Cyl was last seen heading for the Ring of Steall in the Mamore range on May 30 last year and Mr Brown, 65, set off alone in Glen Nevis on July 2 , 2015.

Anyone with information that could help police with their inquiries into any of these missing people is asked to contact them on 101.
