Highland woman who threatened to punch council officials told to behave by sheriff

A Thurso woman, who threatened council officials visiting her, was ordered to behave herself by a sheriff, yesterday.

Janet Goodbrand, 57, admitted behaving in a threatening or abuse manner, at Wick Sheriff Court yesterday.

The court heard that during a meeting with the two housing department officials, on March 29, she became angry and told one of them: “I will punch your face right off, so I will.”

The officials left Goodbrand’s home in St John’s House, Thurso, and contacted the police.

Sheriff Andrew Berry was told that the accused remembered little or nothing of the incident because she had been drinking but was now getting help for her alcohol abuse.

The sheriff commented: “People in public life are entitled to go about their work without being abused.”

He deferred sentence until February 17, to give Goodbrand an opportunity to demonstrate she can behave herself.
