Organisers hail second Memory Walk in Fochabers as a success

Organisers have hailed the success of the second Memory Walk in aid of Alzheimer Scotland in Fochabers.

A total of 50 participants gathered in Baxters Highland Village early yesterday afternoon and were spurred on by bagpipes as they took part in a four-kilometre walk along the River Spey.

The event was one of many taking place across the country this year and funds raised will go to the charity Alzheimer Scotland to help it support 90,000 people living with the condition.

The Fochabers walk was organised by Elma Mackay, who described it as a “great success.”

She said: “Fifty walkers took part and, once all the sponsorship money has been collected, we should have raised more than £2,500.

“I have been involved in the organisation of these walks before in Inverness and Aberdeenshire but this is the first time I have organised the day in Fochabers.

“It was a huge success, in respect of the area and the amount of people who took part.

“We have also had great feedback from the people who took part on the day.

“They were able to enjoy a four-kilometre walk along some beautiful scenery.

“We’re definitely looking to do the same thing again next year.

She added: “I would also like to thank the Gordon and Ena Baxter Foundation for their help in organising the event.

“They provided tea and coffee throughout the day and well as raffle prizes.”
