A spectacular film by Skye stunt cyclist Danny MacAskill could result in a tourism boost for the Highlands, VisitScotland has said.
The short film Danny MacAskill’s Wee Day Out shows the trials rider leap onto a single train track at the Strathspey Steam Railway, riding a hay bale like a giant unicycle and riding over the top of a cottage.
The film has been shared around the world by more than 4.5million people.
VisitScotland hopes these views will translate into visitors who have been inspired to come to the Highlands after watching Mr MacAskill’s antics amidst the beautiful backdrops and scenery, meaning a welcome boost to the local visitor economy.
The short film also features Glenfinnan, in the west Highlands.
Renowned trials rider Danny, who hails from Dunvegan, became one of the biggest YouTube stars in the world after his incredible bike skills were witnessed in a number of jaw-dropping edits, including The Ridge, in which he took a death-defying ride along the notorious Cuillins ridgeline on Skye.
The Highland outdoor adventure company whose mountain guides worked on The Ridge has seen bookings dramatically increase following the film’s popularity.
Stu Thomson, director at film producers Cut Media said: “It’s been awesome to once again collaborate with Danny on a project in our own backyard, allowing us to not only showcase Danny’s incredible talent but also to represent the beauty of Scotland’s landscapes on film.
“A lot of time and effort went into making the film, so it’s been brilliant to get such a positive response, especially as we set the bar so high with the Ridge.”
Scott Armstrong, VisitScotland regional partnerships director, added: “Yet again, Danny MacAskill is helping to promote his stunning homeland with another fantastic short film.
“We would hope that the inclusion of these Highland locations in this edit would encourage visitors to come to explore this beautiful region, which is looking incredibly picturesque.”
