Highland man accused of throwing a cat in a bin

Inverness Sheriff Court
Inverness Sheriff Court

A Dingwall man has gone on trial accused of throwing a cat into a charity clothing bin.

Mateusz Podlawski, of Tulloch Square, denies that on April 14 he caused the cat unnecessary suffering by placing it in the container with no means of escape, contrary to the Animal Health and Welfare Scotland Act.

The case was adjourned until December 14 yesterday after four witnesses had been heard.

The 30-year-old is defended by solicitor Pauline Chapman and she will present her case on that date.

The court heard from 23-year-old Sheena MacGregor from Beauly who saw a man holding the cat by the neck and say: “This cat belongs in the bin.”

Dingwall man Donald Tulloch, 40, told the court: “I saw the man with the cat. He was holding it in the air by its neck. It was strange and |I went into the shop and told the staff.

“I went home but then I thought I had better go back because had he had to have done something with the cat.

“Someone was trying to get the car out of the bin with a jumper, hoping it would catch it. I could hear it squealing and miaowing.”

The trial continues.
