Olympic hero Sir Chris Hoy has touched down in the Highlands as filming on Jeremy Clarkson’s new Grand Tour series picks up pace.

Six-time champion Sir Chris is rumoured to be taking part in a celebrity segment for the show, where he will be “killed off” – a cheeky send up to the BBC objecting to the show carrying out ‘Top Gear style’ celebrity interviews.

The segment would follow last Friday’s series opener where Hurt Locker actor Jeremy Renner, Social Network star Armie Hammer and I’m A Celebrity campmate Carol Vorderman all met grisly ends.

Sir Chris arrived in style at the Loch Ness set in a sleek black helicopter ahead of his meet up with the Grand Tour crew.

Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May arrived in Fort Augustus yesterday ahead of the filming for their new online show.

The Grand Tour’s studio segments are being filmed in a huge tent which is being taken to locations around the world.

Earlier, members of the production crew filmed sequences involving three classic cars on the roads on the south side of the world-famous loch.

The footage shot at Fort Augustus will be used later in the programme’s current run on Amazon Prime.

Other locations used for filming the series so far include California, Johannesburg in South Africa and Whitby on the Yorkshire coast.
