Talented primary pupil Tara Heritage-Crabb has won Argyll and Bute Council’s road safety calendar competition.

Tara is in primary five at Lochnell Primary School in Benderloch, near Oban.

Her brightly coloured poster, which bears the message “Wait till the red goes green”, was selected as the overall winner by a panel of judges from the council’s road safety team.

Every year the council asks local school children to design posters, with the overall winner receiving a £50 voucher and the Road Safety Classroom Calendar Trophy for their school.

Tara’s picture features at the top of the calendar, which is being sent to every school classroom in Argyll and Bute.

Councillor Alistair MacDougall, Policy Lead for Transportation, who presented Tara with her prize, said: “Road safety is an extremely serious subject which affects each and every one of us. This annual competition is a great way of getting young people to think about their behaviour on or near roads.

“We would like to congratulate all the category winners and entrants this year as the standard was again very high, 1,673 entries were received from 43 of our schools which is an excellent response on such an important subject.

”To have so many children, along with their teachers, concentrating their minds on road safety is fantastic.

“We are delighted that this year’s winner is from Lochnell Primary School – they have been great supporters of this competition for many years.”
