An appeal launched by a kindhearted Highland dinner lady after a pupil was diagnosed with leukaemia is heading to a staggering £9,000.

Eleven-year-old Jordan Ross’s friends and neighbours hoped to raise just a few hundred pounds to help his family as they travel back and forth from Glasgow for treatment.

But after just a day of online fundraising, they had broke the £3,000 barrier – and the total continues to rise.

More than 220 people have now donated to the page, which currently sits at £8,600. The JustGiving page remains open until Friday.

Edderton Primary School pupil Jordan was sent to a children’s hospital in Glasgow with mum Stacey and dad Robert by his side.

Donna Laing, a dinner lady at the school, was so moved by Jordan’s plight she set up a crowdfunding page to support the family through the difficult time.

Mrs Laing said: “I knew Jordan so well, I just wanted to help. I couldn’t believe the response. I just hope the money keeps pouring in.”

Mrs Laing said there are only 20 pupils in the school, including Jordan’s nine-year-old brother Ally.

She added: “I just thought we could do something to help Jordan’s mum and dad out as much as possible in the situation they are in.

“We just want to make life a bit easier for them all. It is a really difficult time and they don’t need any other worries.

“The children at the school are just like a family. They are all very close. They all want Jordan home. One little boy gave the £10 in his money box and said it was to get Jordan home. It’s been so moving how people have responded and been so generous.”
