Sentence has been further deferred on a man responsible for throwing an elderly cat into a charity clothing bank with no way out.
Mateusz Podlawski, 30, was found guilty after trial of causing the 18-year-old family pet unnecessary suffering, contrary to the Animal Health and Welfare Scotland Act.
Inverness Sheriff Court heard previously that he faces the possibility of being thrown out of the country.
Police and firefighters had to be called out to free the animal from a container in the Co-op car park in Dingwall on April 14 last year.
Podlawski, of Tulloch Square, Dingwall, was due for sentence yesterday but Sheriff Margaret Neilson further deferred for another indictment matter he is involved in to be resolved.
She said: “It also seems there might be a hint of hope in the background report, but all of this might be completely irrelevant if he is convicted on the indictment matter.”
Sheriff Neilson also called for another supplementary report to assess Podlawski’s progress, adding: “I would expect significant progress, otherwise I think your client knows what awaits him.”
Podlawski will appear for sentence at Inverness Sheriff Court on March 30.
