More than 1,400 school pupils have been told to stay home today after arctic storms battered the north.
A total of 12 schools and seven nurseries have been closed to pupils and staff today as a result of bad weather.
More are expected to announce their closure throughout the morning as high winds and wintry conditions make travel increasingly dangerous.
