Here are six stories you may have missed from Inverness Sheriff Court this week.
1) Seven officers needed to arrest two men in Inverness incident
It took seven policemen to deal with an incident involving two Inverness men in Lochalsh Road the week before Christmas.
Inverness Sheriff Court was told that 30 year old Lee Dyce of Kessock Road, headbutted one officer, spat at two and attempted to bite five others as they tried to arrest him outside Merkinch Stores on December 16.
He admitted a charge of police assault.
His companion, 30 year old Craig MacPhee of Kessock Avenue, then struggled violently with officers and he admitted resisting arrest.
Sentence was deferred until February 10 for background reports. MacPhee had his bail continued and Dyce was remanded in custody.
2) Inverness man admits supplying heroin
A 25-year-old Inverness man was ordered to carry out 240 hours of community service after admitting being concerned in the supply of heroin.
Ewan Sweeney of Kingmsills Road pleaded guilty to dealing in £1,000 worth of the Class A narcotic from an address in Anderson Crescent, Inverness between May 16 and June 16 in 2015.
Sentence had been deferred for reports.
3) Threats to woman were “actions of an idiot”, Sheriff tells court
A 26-year-old Inverness man who threatened a woman had sentence deferred for a background report until February 10.
Nazeem Ulgu, of Farraline Court, admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner and making offensive remarks and gestures while he was in company with a number of other people at an Inverness address.
Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood told defence lawyer Clare Russell he didn’t regard it as a sexual offence but more “the actions of an idiot.”
4) Highland man to lose job after speeding on A9
A 22-year-old Avoch timber technician will lose his job after losing his licence at Inverness Sheriff Court yesterday.
Glenn Mitchell admitted driving carelessly on the A9 between the Munlochy and North Kessock junctions on December 6, 2015, by driving at excessive speed, failing to maintain a proper distance from the vehicle in front and of failing to control his vehicle properly.
Mitchell, of High Street, told Inverness Sheriff Court that the car ahead had pulled out in front of him without indicating.
Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood heard that since the incident Mitchell had received fixed penalties for speeding.
Fining him £500 and banned him for six months, the Sheriff said: “It is of some concern to me that having been charged in December, 2015 you were twice caught driving at excessive speed in 2016. I have to wonder if you are safe to be on the road.”
5) Inverness man threatened staff at city takeaway
A 46-year-old labourer who shouted and threatened staff at an Inverness takeaway was fined £650 at Inverness Sheriff Court yesterday.
Donald Campbell of Ardconnel Terrace admitted a breach of the peace at McDonald’s on August 18.
Defending, Clare Russell said her client had been on medication and should not have taken alcohol.
6) Highland man jailed for breaching court orders
A 29 year old Ardersier man was jailed for a total of five months at Inverness Sheriff Court yesterday after admitting breaching court orders.
James Green of Reaybank Road appeared from custody and pleaded guilty to failing to complete a community payback order, failing to appear for court dates and breaching a special bail condition.
