The father-in-law of a young dad who tragically died after being struck by a car in Caithness has spoken of the family’s grief.

Tim Humphreys, of John o’ Groats, died as he walked home along the A836 John o’ Groats to Castletown road, near the Seaview Hotel.

The 34-year-old, who was originally from Skye and worked at sea, lived with his wife Sarah and their children at Roadside.

Police are still carrying out inquiries into the accident, which involved a black BMW X6, and have appealed for witnesses.

Yesterday Mr Humphreys’ father-in-law, Gordon Asher, said: “The family is devastated with something like this happening out of the blue.

“Tim will be very sorely missed in the place. He was a larger than life man and he loved his kids and his wife. They were the love of his life.

“We are grateful for the local support in the community and for the support all over the Highlands.”

The tight-knit community and people from across the region has rallied to support Mr Humphreys’ family by launching a fundraising appeal to help cover funeral costs.

Last night the total was already more than £7,000.

Flowers have also been left at the scene of the accident, with several displaying touching tributes to the family man.

The tragic accident happened at about 11.40pm on Friday night and the road was closed until about 7.45am the following day to allow specialist road policing officers to carry out a full collision investigation.
