Anyone in Aviemore at the weekend would be forgiven for thinking they were trapped in a time warp.

More than 200 fans of the time travelling drama Outlander, set in the Highlands, were in town for the Outlandish Gathering.

Enthusiasts of the books and television series from 15 different countries converged on the MacDonald Aviemore Resort.

Friday night involved a costume competition while Saturday night had a 1960s theme.

The weekend included guided tours of Outlander locations, including Culloden Battlefield and Beauly Priory.

Saturday was a convention day, which included demonstrations, speakers and performances relating to the show along with vendors selling crafts and a charity raffle.

An Outlander-themed treasure hunt took place yesterday, with funds raised to benefit Youth Theatre Arts Scotland, which is patronised by Outlander star Sam Heughan.

Since its inception in 2014, Outlandish UK has raised more than £25,000 for the group’s sponsored charities of Bloodwise, World Child Cancer and Youth Theatre Arts Scotland.

Angela Sasso, Outlandish UK administrator, said: “We are just looking at the money raised for our charities, we are going to break our past records. Everybody has been very generous.

“This is our third event. We started in 2014 with a walk along the Royal Mile. It was originally going to be 40 people but we ended up with 1120. In 2015 we had three days in Crieff and we waited a year before having this event.”

Season three of Outlander is due to hit screens later this year.
