A new housing development could be built on a gap site on the edge of Aviemore.
Plans have been revealed for 32 apartments on the site close to the village centre off Grampian Road.
The project is being developed by Cairngorm Residential Ltd, which has applied to the national park authority for permission to build in the area.
The site is largely vacant ground and has been empty since the closure of a petrol filling station in 1999.
Part of the ground is currently occupied by retailer Active Outdoor Pursuits, which has indicated that it will not renew its lease and will move to different premises in the Badenoch area.
The land is owned by the applicant.
The site was previously the subject of a different planning application for eight flats and retail units.
However, these plans were never brought to fruition.
John Grierson, chairman of Aviemore and Vicinity Community Council, said the that the group would discuss the plans at their next meeting in June.
He was not in a position to pass comment before that.
In documents lodged with the planning application, the developer said that the aim was to “revitalise a disused, derelict site”.
Normally housing developments include an allocation of affordable homes – which would have meant eight out of the 32 being planned.
However, the developer as suggested building 14 affordable homes on a separate site within Aviemore as an alternative.
Initially the plans involved building five blocks of apartments with 35 flats.
The design statement said: “The number of blocks of apartments has been reduced to four blocks and 32 apartments.
“A lift has been introduced to the central vertical circulation zone, making this element wider in plan and elevation.
“The roof line of the accommodation wings has been raised to create better definition between the roof elements.”
The site will include 48 parking spaces and will be powered by a communal central heating and hot water system.
The development is close to a separate former petrol station on the opposite side of Grampian Road.
Plans for a new Premier Inn hotel were recently approved by the Cairngorms National Park planning committee.
