A motorcyclist was airlifted to hospital yesterday after being involved in a crash with a car on an Argyll road.

The A816 Oban to Lochgilphead road was closed for around three hours to allow investigators to asses the scene, near Oude Dam, Kilmelford.

The man, whose injuries were not thought to be life threatening, was thrown into the ditch at the side of the road following the impact with the silver car.

He is understood to have been from England and riding in the company of another motorcyclist, with the two heading to Ullapool.

The crash took place at a bend on the Kilmelford side of the Oude Dam bridge.

A police spokeswoman said: “Emergency services attended a report of a road crash involving a motorcycle and a car at around 8.20am, two miles north of Kilmelford. The road re-opened at 11.40am.”

Inspector Mark Stephen of Oban police station said: “The man came off his motorcycle. He was airlifted to hospital in Glasgow for treatment. His injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.”

A spokesman for the Fire Service said: “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at 8.28am on Thursday, July 13 to reports of a collision between a motorcycle and car on the A816, Kilmelford.

“Firefighters worked In partnership with the Scottish Ambulance Service to remove one male casualty from a ditch.

“Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”

Further north, a lorry overturned on the A82 in Glencoe.

The accident happened on the stretch between the King’s House Hotel and Bridge of Orchy.

The busy road was closed in both directions following the incident which happened around 11 am.

A police spokesman said: “We received a call at 11.06 am to say that an articulated lorry had overturned two miles south of the hotel.

“The male driver is with ambulance staff, but he is up and walking about.

“The lorry was carrying sawdust and a team from Bear Scotland has been called to clear up debris on the road.

“No other vehicle was involved in the incident.”

A fire service spokeswoman added: “A lorry overturned on the A82 in Glencoe this morning and we sent one appliance along. But the driver was out of his vehicle when it arrived on the scene.”
