Twenty soldiers are gearing up for the this month’s Loch Ness marathon to raise money for a local hospice.
The troops from The Highlanders, 4th Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland, are taking part in the event in support of Highland Hospice.
The 26-mile run will commence at 10am on Sunday, September 24, beginning from high ground between Fort Augustus and Foyers and finishing on the banks of Loch Ness and Foyers.
Company Commander Gordon Muir, leader of the group, spoke of the great work the charity does and the hard work his team have been doing to preparation for the event.
He said: “We are asked each year to raise funds for charity, combining numerous events, mostly endurance races and other fitness events, into an annual attempt to raise money for charities in our traditional recruiting areas.
“This year, Highland Hospice was suggested so our team have been training hard in order to raise funds for this great service provider.”
Emma Slater, 38, is also set to attend the event for a sixth consecutive year in honor of her grandmother who died in Highland Hospice.
She said: “We were blown away by the caring, generous staff and the peaceful and calm atmosphere the place afforded.”
