As they prepare to celebrate the life of their teenage son, the parents of Kyle Bruce have warned young drivers to take care on the roads.
The 17-year-old died on October 25 when his car left the road on the A82 north of Spean Bridge. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
No other vehicles were involved when Kyle’s blue Audi A3 went down an embankment between Letterfinlay and Invergloy. He was the only occupant.
Kyle’s funeral will take place on Saturday at midday in the boxing ring at the Nevis Centre, Fort William. Kyle, from Spean Bridge, had bought tickets to watch the match there on Saturday night.
All friends who would like to drive are invited to meet at Spean Bridge Shinty Pitch at 11.00am on Saturday. His favourite cars, Fords, are to be at the front of the procession.
In a statement yesterday, his heartbroken parents Kevin and Andrea said: “All parents, cherish your young ones and tell them you love them.
“This is a very bad, worrying time when your child starts to drive. You can’t wrap them in cotton wool. You must let them go on their adventures.
“Our youngest, Kyle, was a careful driver. It was just lack of experience on wet roads which led to an unfortunate accident. We can’t emphasize enough to drivers to watch out in these conditions and keep safe.”
Kyle was a mechanical engineering student and was on his way to college in Inverness when the accident happened.
His older brother Lee, 19, is a keen boxer and the funeral notice issued by the family reads: “I always wanted to take on my brother Lee in the ring. So, bring it on!”
After the service at the Nevis Centre, friends are invited to the Ben Nevis Hotel.
Any donations which are given at the door will go to local sports clubs.
Scott Greenlees, funeral director at John McLellan, said: “His family want to make it a very happy occasion.
“They are treating this as the party he never got for his 18th. As any parent would, they just want the best for him, so they are giving him a good send off. It is a big celebration of his life.”
There will be a private committal at Inverness Crematorium.
