Fireworks displays and bonfires are taking place at locations across the Highlands and Islands this weekend.

The City of Inverness Civic Bonfire and Fireworks Display is being held in Bught Park tonight. Events start at 5.30pm, with the display due to begin at 7.30pm.

Inverness is the biggest fireworks display in the Highlands, regularly attracting up to 10,000 people.

Skye Camanachd Community Bonfire Night and Fireworks Display takes place tonight from 6.30pm to 9.30pm at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree. In case of inclement weather, the fallback date will be Monday at the same time.

In Orkney, Kirkwall’s annual bonfire and fireworks display takes place at the Peedie Sea tonight. The event will begin with the lighting of the bonfire by the Rotary Club president David Dawson and a representative from the Kirkwall and St Ola Community Council, at 6.45pm. The Kirkwall City Pipe Band will then play from 7pm, with the fireworks display to start at 7.15pm.

Oban’s Annual Fireworks Spectacular hosted by Bid4Oban takes place at the harbour from 7.15pm on Sunday.

On the same day in Aviemore, the fireworks display takes place at The Cairngorm Hotel from 6pm.

The Wick bonfire and fireworks being held as part of Wick Gala take place next weekend on Saturday November 11 at 7pm.

Meanwhile, Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) is urging everyone celebrating Bonfire Night to be aware of its overhead equipment and to avoid letting off fireworks and building bonfires near power lines.

This safety warning comes after an unlit bonfire was found next to SSEN’s power lines in Sumburgh, Shetland in preparation for this weekend’s celebrations.
