Rescue volunteers in the north were scrambled to Chanonry Point only to find someone wild swimming.

Kessock Lifeboat received a report of three people in the water just after 5pm after a member of the public reported someone shouting from the water.

RNLI volunteers were dispatched to the scene alongside Coastguard Helicopter 951 to undertake a thorough sweep of the area.

The helicopter found one swimmer in the water and proceeded to ensure they were fine.

Invergordon lifeboat were also dispatched to the scene, shortly before 5.30pm, to continue the search.

A spokesman from Kessock Lifeboat said: “We were called out to reports of three people in the water at Chanonry Point.

“Someone made the call after they thought they heard calls for help.

“The Coastguard Helicopter 951 was tasked to the scene and did a thorough sweep of the area.

“They found one swimmer in the water and proceeded to winch someone down to establish they were absolutely fine.

“We believe the call was made with good intent and we would encourage anyone to make the call to emergency service or the channel 16 radio if they think there is an emergency.”

All teams were stood down following a thorough search of the area to determine there was no other people in the water.
