A Highland League footballer who fought with a group of teenagers in Nairn will be sentenced next month.
Gary Kerr, of Cauldeen Road, Inverness, who played for Nairn County and now turns out for Rothes, appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court yesterday and admitted three assault charges.
The incident happened on October 9 in Nairn’s High Street with the court being told that 27-year-old Kerr was drunk.
Fiscal depute Ross Carvel said a friend of Kerr’s made a comment which was misheard by a teenager nearby.
The teenager challenged Kerr’s friend who then punched the youth, knocking him unconscious as he hit his head on the ground, Mr Carvel went on.
He added that the youth’s friends were then called to the scene and “a stramash involving all of then ensued”.
Mr Carvel said that Kerr then punched two other teenagers in the fight, who were also injured.
Defence solicitor Clare Russell said her client admitted previous convictions, which included one of serious assault.
Sheriff Margaret Neilson decided she wanted a background report and Kerr’s sentence was deferred until May 9.
According to the Rothes FC website, Kerr signed to the club in February. Before that, he has played for Nairn County for four years in a forward role.
It is understood he has also been on the books of Clach and Inverness City in the past.
A spokesman for the club said it was “inappropiate to comment” at the moment.
