Police in Newtonmore are investigating damage caused to an ornamental wildcat on Kingussie Road in the village.
The ceramic ornament forms part of the Newtonmore Wildcat Trail.
It is believed to have been vandalised in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Constable Kyle Ross said: “I am aware of the significance of the wildcat trail in Newtonmore and the associated wildcat ornaments which are located throughout the town.
“This type of behaviour will not be tolerated and although we are following a positive line of enquiry, anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident number NM1294/18 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 .”
