Work to install flood alleviation channels in Kingussie are now complete following a three phase project.

The works on Pitmain Estate, located above the village, consisted of a weir on the Allt Mor being constructed to direct a portion of the water flow from the main river via a diversion channel into Loch Gynack.

The project was a joint venture and funded by the Council and Pitmain Estate and aims to make a contribution towards the council’s commitment to reduce the risk of flooding in the town.

Highland Council convener and local councillor Bill Lobban said: “I’m delighted that the project has gone so well and the work is now complete as the scheme will certainly help to reduce the frequency and severity of flooding from the River Gynack in the centre of Kingussie.”

Phase one of the project began in June last year and involved the formation of a section of the diversion channel between Allt Mor and Loch Gynack.

A main weir was then constructed at Allt Mor as part of phase two of the project.

Contractors McGowan Ltd of Aviemore completed the final phase of the works at the end of February 2018.
