Police in Lochaber are appealing for information following a serious sexual assault in Fort William.

The incident happened between 1am and 1.30am on Sunday 17, June in the High Street area of the town, close to Middle Street.

Extensive enquiries have been ongoing since and officers are now appealing for information which could assist the investigation.

In particular officers are keen to speak to man described as being around 20-years-old, about 5ft 10-in to 6ft tall, medium to well-built with a round face and blonde/light brown hair cut short at the sides with a side parting.

On the night he was wearing a white t-shirt, open khaki jacket or long sleeved shirt, black jeans and a  chunky black watch. He is believed to have been in the company of three other men.

He spoke with a Glaswegian accent and spoke of being a college student in Glasgow.

Detective Inspector Donald Macdonald said: “While the victim in this case was physically uninjured, she has obviously been left very shaken and she is receiving support from specialist officers.

“I appreciate it is now several weeks since this incident and I would like to reassure people that extensive police enquires have been ongoing to resolve this case, including thorough checks of CCTV footage.

“We are now appealing to the public for help and would ask anyone who was on the High Street or in licensed premises in the area on the evening of Saturday, June 16 into the early hours of Sunday, June 17 to get in touch.

“I would ask people to cast their minds back and report anything you think may be important, even if it seemed inconsequential at the time.

“We are also asking local hotels, bed & breakfasts, campsites and taxis to consider whether they may have come into contact with the man described or the other three we believe he was with.

“Officers will continue to carry out enquiries in Fort William into this incident and I’m grateful for the help of all who have already assisted our enquiries.”
