Fire crews required in Nairn and Boat of Garten

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were called to three separate incidents yesterday, as emergency attention was required twice in Nairn and once in Boat of Garten.

At 10.19 yesterday morning crews from Nairn and Forres were called to Nairn Recycling Centre after a skip was reported to be ablaze. A hose reel jet and two firefighters in breathing apparatus were used as crews tackled to extinguish the fire. A stop message was received shortly after 11.30am.

There would be little restbite for the Nairn crew as at 11.50am reports of a wildfire were received by fire control, alerting the crew to attend. Upon arrival the crew established the fire had already been extinguished but remained on scene, dampening down the site with a water knapsack.

At Boat of Garten crews from Aviemore, Grantown, Carrbridge and Kingussie were mobilised, alongside a water carrier from Inverness. Initially reports of a tractor on fire were received before crews established upon arrival that the fire was indeed a wildfire, with grass in the area ablaze.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said: “Crews from Aviemore and Grantown are on scene dampening down the area. An area spanning approximately 400 by 200 meters of grass is ablaze with two hose reel jets, beaters and a portable pump using open water dampening down the area.”

The initial call was received at 1.05pm with the stop message coming at 1.48pm.
