A Barra fisherman who drove while seven times over the limit was sentenced to six months behind bars.
John Christie, of Castlebay, has been on remand since the incident in Mallaig on September 17.
He pled guilty to drinking so much, he had 154 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the legal limit is 22mg. He also pled guilty to damaging a police car by kicking it and then assaulting a police officer.
Fort William Sheriff Court heard he crashed the vehicle into a restaurant in Mallaig shortly before 5.10pm, and police were called.
Procurator fiscal Young said: “He was a fisherman and the boat was out the water for four days. Mr Christie had been drinking, and there was an argument and he drove away.”
Sheriff Gary Aitken said: “This is a very high level of alcohol in your reading, this and the fact you have an analogous crime just under 10 years ago means it is inevitable that you will go to prison.
“When you are released you will then be disqualified from driving for three years.
“I will backdate this to September 18 when you were first placed on remand.”
