The weather is set to improve briefly today before more wind and rain makes it way in for the weekend.

Two Met Office weather warnings have been issued for wind on Friday and rain on Saturday.

Alex Burkill, meteorologist, said: “By 7am on Wednesday the rain will clear across all of Scotland. Only the very far tips of north west Scotland might still be damp to start off. It will be a much brighter and drier day than we have had of late.

“It will be a bit breezy but winds will be lighter. It’s going to be quite warm. Western Scotland could get highs of 19C, it could even get into the low 20s.

“Thursday should get off to a decent start in the west. It will be fairly bright and sunny. Further east it is likely to be quite showery. Through the day we will see some showery rain push its way in, but not as persistent and long lasting as the rain we have had recently. Temperatures will still be above average, 17C in the west and 15C in the east.

“Friday is very unsettled. We have got a yellow wind warning for the whole of Scotland. It is also going to be quite wet.

“The strongest winds will be in western Scotland. We are looking at gusts of up to 60mph, perhaps even up to 80mph in exposed parts of the west. It will be storm force.

“We have a rainfall warning for Saturday where we expect to see 80mm over 12 hours and perhaps 120 throughout the whole day.

“Sunday will be a bit colder than Friday and Saturday but there will still be a lot of rain around.”
