Cancer charity honours Grantown-on-Spey volunteer

A fundraising volunteer has been honoured for her efforts to raise much-needed cash for a cancer charity.

Fiona Lewis, from Grantown-on-Spey, received the prestigious Douglas Macmillan Award for Scotland, presented each year to an ambassador for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Mrs Lewis received the award for bring awareness of the charity to the local community and using her influence to make a significant impact on the work of MacMillan.

Friends and family joined Mrs Lewis to see her pick up her award.

Fundraising manager Isla Dewar said: “It’s a genuine privilege to work with a volunteer like Fiona. She’s so committed to Macmillan and her enthusiasm is boundless.

“Our founder Douglas Macmillan was also a volunteer and his vision was for everyone with cancer to receive information and advice about cancer and to get care from nurses in their own homes.

“His legacy lives on in the support we offer today, thanks in no small part to our huge network of volunteers, just like Fiona.

“They are all committed to supporting Macmillan so we can help people living with cancer find their best way through and live life as fully as they can.”

The award was made during a training day for volunteers from across the north at the Cairngorm Hotel in Aviemore on Saturday
